If your teen is 16 or 17 and ready for a first piercing, our piercing shop needs three things from you: a notarized parental consent form, a government-issued photo ID for each of you, and your child's birth certificate. You also stay in the studio for the whole appointment.
That list can look like a lot when you just want to say yes to something your kid has been asking about for months. It gets simple once you know what each piece is for. Have a question before you book? Reach out to our team at (407) 725-7072 and we'll walk you through it.
What does our piercing shop need from a parent of a minor?
You need a notarized consent form, two valid photo IDs, and you, in person. Florida's body piercing rules require notarized consent from a parent or legal guardian for every minor, and the form has to describe the piercing you're approving.
So pick the placement first, then head to the notary. We don't notarize at the studio. Most banks will do it for you, so a stop at your branch on the way in from downtown, maybe after a loop around Lake Eola, takes care of it.
Print the form from our piercing requirements for minors page and sign it in front of the notary. On the day, bring your photo ID, your teen's photo ID, and their birth certificate. We make a copy of both IDs. Photo IDs only.
One warning we give every family: if you show up without the notarized form, you lose the appointment and the deposit. Put it in the car the night before. Minor piercings also carry a $20 upcharge, and we take cash only. There's an ATM on site if you forget.
Which piercings can a teen get at 16 or 17?
Most ear placements and many facial ones are fine for a 16 or 17 year old with proper consent. Four are off the table for anyone under 18: nipples, genitals, belly buttons, and tongues. A parent's signature doesn't change that. It's our rule, and we keep it.
Lobes are the classic first piercing. Plenty of teens who spend Saturdays browsing the shops on Park Avenue in Winter Park come in asking for a helix or a nostril instead. That's usually fine too. Cartilage heals slower than a lobe, though, so we ask about sports helmets, phone habits, and which side they sleep on before we mark anything.
Before the piercing, every minor has a consultation with the guardian present. It can happen in person or over Zoom, but a phone call or email doesn't count. The consult is free, it's short, and it's where you settle the exact placement that goes on the notarized form.
Want to look at options together first? Our piercings page lists every ear, nose, and lip placement we do, with prices that include starter jewelry.
How does a professional studio keep a young client safe?
A professional studio protects your teen with sterile, single-use needles, body-safe jewelry, and a trained piercer who has seen every kind of nervous first-timer. Florida requires piercing studios to hold a state health permit, and piercers must finish infection-control training before they pierce anyone.
Our lead piercer, Stevo, has been piercing for more than twenty years. Every needle is sterile, opened for that one client, and thrown away after. Starter jewelry is included in the price, in 316L surgical steel or implant-grade titanium, both made to sit in a fresh piercing while it heals.
Teens are often brave about the needle and jumpy about everything else. A calm piercer who explains each step, marks the spot, and lets them check it in the mirror before anything happens turns a scary afternoon into a good memory. That part is skill, and it comes from two decades of doing it.
Families come to us from all over the Orlando area, including the neighborhoods around UCF. You'll find the studio on Howell Branch Road behind the red wooden doors. If anything about the setup worries you, ask us to show you. A good studio is happy to.
What aftercare should your family expect at home?
Expect a simple daily cleaning routine and a lot of not touching. Lobes settle in weeks. Cartilage can take months, so the routine has to outlast the excitement of the first few days.
We go over aftercare before you leave, including what to pause. Pools, lakes, and hot tubs are the big one for Orlando families, so a fresh piercing and a summer weekend at the springs take some planning. No twisting the jewelry, no early swap to a cute stud, and sleep on the other side when you can.
One afternoon a girl came in with her dad in tow. She looked completely unafraid. He was a nervous wreck, asking every question he could think of. "I've never had my ears pierced before, honey. I'm just trying to understand what to expect, that's all," he told her.
She rolled her eyes at him, but we could tell she was a little anxious too. So we slowed down and went through the paperwork with both of them, then what they should do once they got home. Parents who ask a lot of questions are our favorite kind.
If something looks off after you get home, come back for a free 15-minute piercing checkup. We'd much rather see it early.
When your teen is ready, book a piercing appointment online, or call (407) 725-7072 and we'll help you line up the consult, the form, and the big day. Still have questions first? Contact our studio and a real person will get back to you.
